Belimo's Non Fail-Safe Actuators Are Used For Many HVAC Applications

You may be asking, what does non-fail safe mean?  For HVAC actuators “non fail-safe” denotes that the device stays in its last position setting upon power loss or disruption to it. By contrast, a fail-safe actuator returns to a pre-set position.  Non-fail safe actuators have their place in most applications, due to their ability to mount just about anywhere, and integrate with control systems.

Belimo Air Controls produces several different model types for the building controls industry.  Below is quick run-down of their non-fail safe options.  Torque requirements are the main difference between these, but each also has multiple variations for power requirements, signal types and connectivity.

The PM Series - for torque requirements of 1400 in-lbs [160 Nm]

The GM Series - for torque requirements of 360 in-lbs [40 Nm], 90 sq. ft.

The AM Series - for torque requirements of 180 in-lbs [20 Nm], 45 sq. ft.

The NM Series - for torque requirements of 90 in-lbs [10 Nm], 22 sq. ft.

The LM Series - for torque requirements of 45 in-lbs [5 Nm], 11 sq. ft.

The CM Series - for torque requirements of 18 in-lbs [2 Nm], 4.5 sq. ft.

The UMB Series - for torque requirements of 9 in-lbs [1 Nm], 2.25 sq. ft.

The Belimo CMB24-3, offering 18-in lbs of torque, is a Non fail-safe actuator.

Enhancing System Performance

Belimo's actuators are designed to optimize system performance by seamlessly integrating with Building Automation Systems (BAS) through BACnet, Modbus, or MP-Bus protocols. For added convenience, select models feature Near Field Communication (NFC) for swift programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Promoting Energy Efficiency

Belimo's patented technology ensures superior efficiency and reduced power consumption throughout the lifecycle of the product, resulting in significant carbon emission reductions.

Precision and Reliability

Equipped with brushless DC motor technology and controlled by an ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit), Belimo actuators deliver consistent torque across their entire operational range. This design eliminates performance fluctuations due to temperature changes, supply voltage variations, or speed adjustments.

Belimo's actuators all come with a 5-year warranty.  E-Controls.net offers a vast selection of damper actuators for nearly any HVAC application.  Search our webstore today at https://www.e-controls.net/.

Siemens GCA Series Spring Return Actuators; Quality Matched With Reliability.

Siemens, with 150 years of experience in the HVAC industry, continues to produce the devices you’ve come to depend on for reliability, performance and quality.

For projects that require spring return actuators, consideration should be given to the Siemens GCA Series.  Built for damper areas of approximately 36 sq. ft, these actuators are rugged, offering 142 in-lbs of torque, built-in conduit connections and lightweight metal housing for unsurpassed durability.  These are designed to handle over 60,000 full strokes and 1.5 million repositions at rated torque and temperature.

The Siemens GCA161.1U

There is a GCA series configuration designed to serve your needs.  For control signal, there are options for On/Off (2-position), Floating (3-position) or Modulating (0-10 VDC, or 4-20 mA).  Other options include power supply, adjustable start/span (with 2 auxiliary switches), feedback and electronic tandem control.

The GCA models boast several features including:

  • Brushless DC motors to gain reliable control of speed, braking and torque.
  • Fail-Safe spring return that is bi-directional
  • Manual override
  • Self-centering shaft coupling (patented)
  • Span adjustment and offset models are available
  • cUL and UL listed

A number of accessories are also available that include different mounting kits, crank arms, tandem mount brackets, shaft adapters, NEMA rated weather shields and heater kits.

Siemens produces their actuators with versatility in mind, covering a wide variety of HVAC applications including rooftop units (RTUs), vortex dampers, mixing boxes, zone isolation dampers, inlet vane dampers, return air dampers, and outside air dampers including the supply, exhaust and discharge variety.

Belimo's NFB Series Damper Actuators

Belimo, the industry leader in Air Flow Controls, sets the standard for damper actuators in the HVAC market.  Their NFB Series is a type of “Mechanical Fail-Safe” which means these include an internal mechanism that stores energy to drive an actuator motor to it’s predetermined ‘safe’ position in the event of power loss.

The New Generation NFB/NFX series of spring return actuators was designed for several applications including control valves, make-up air units, retrofit, replacement and control dampers designed up to 22 square feet.

The NFB24 Damper Actuator

Here are some of the benefits and features of the series:

  • Torque: With 50% more than previously offered, the NFB series now boasts 90 in-lbs of torque.
  • Smaller Housing:  The re-design of the body features a reduced footprint with the edge to shaft-center distance shortened by .75” which makes the device easier to install in tighter spaces.
  • Manual Override:  Now standard on all NF Series configurations.
  • Power: UPS can accept 24 VAC (up to 24) VAC.  The actuator is ideal for all power supply voltages.
  • Cable length options: Now offered are 3’, 10’ and 16’; same as the non-spring return models.
  • Mechanical limit stop:  This is now built-in, and no longer a separate accessory.

Belimo Damper Actuators provide versatile operation and yield energy savings with their low power usage.  They perform reliably and safely, by utilizing rugged components.  They communicate directly with BAS (Building Automation Systems) via BACnet, Modbus or MP-Bus.  Finally, they offer unsurpassed accuracy and control without loss in their performance due to supply voltage, temperature, or speed.

Since 1975, Belimo Air Controls has been the leader in field devices for the HVAC industry.  Find the Belimo NFB Series or any other damper actuator the produce at E-Controls.net
